Greyson’s Story

In March of 2023, Greyson was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a cancerous brain tumor. He underwent many hours of surgery, and the extraction was believed to be pretty clean but had some unintended effects. Altogether Greyson spent 67 days at Mayo and Children’s Hospitals, involving six weeks of mobility. He was able to go home just in time for his sister’s high school graduation. The following six months were filled with trips to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital for chemo, appointments and therapies at home, protecting his immune system, learning to live with nausea, and adjusting to the ever-present awareness that cancer leaves in its wake. This took an emotional and financial toll on the entire family with trying to balance school, work, and the uncertainty of what the future held.

Greyson overcame many major hurdles as he regained his ability to walk independently with assistive devices, regained his speech, and even returned to school. However, in March 2024, the Byman family learned that the cancer had returned and metastisized to areas beyond the original tumor site. When medulloblastoma becomes mestastic, it is largely considered terminal. In the face of this news, with the gentle support of his family, Greyson elected to start a palliative form of chemo in April. This will continue every other week indefinitely; while it is not intended to be curative, it is hoped to extend Greyson’s life as long as possible with minimal side effects.

We cannot offer words of hope and promise, but we can help shoulder the financial burdens which hover overhead. Our express desire is to promote peace of mind for the Byman family. On June 14, 2024, the community is invited to show support for the Bymans at Whitetail Run Golf Course in Wadena, MN. The GOGREY! GOLF Tournament is intended to raise funds to cover a portion of costs associated with Greyson’s care. We are seeking sponsorships for each hole as well as for contests taking place throughout the tournament; these funds will help cover course fees, allowing monies collected from registration and activities to directly benefit Greyson and his family.

T-shirt Design

T-shirts for this event are designed and printed by Tom Smith and students with Trojan Laser Works at Sebeka Public School.

T-shirts will be available in Youth sizes XS-XL and Adult sizes S-4XL.
